Meet Laurel
I work 1-1 with students all over the world to help build their confidence, find a personalized toolbox of resources, and bridge the gap between their potential and their success.
My Approach
Connection
I believe student success depends on connecting all aspects of their lives, so I involve parents, teachers, and students in the learning process. I help students understand the connections between their habits and their results, and together we work to hone the practices that are working and discover new ones to replace those that are no longer serving them. Perhaps most importantly, I build a connection to each of my students and become their personal academic advocate.
Personalization
I greet each new student where they are, whether they are eager to dive into improvement, resistant to changing their habits, or unsure where to start. I dig into my almost 2 decades of teaching experience to get to know my students’ unique learning profiles and then provide them with the teaching style and toolkit that best fits their natural way of thinking.
What Students are Saying
"As someone who struggled with dyslexia throughout my entire school experience, I’ve never forgotten the teachers who took the time to meet me at my level and profoundly improved my success as a student. High on that list is Laurel Aquadro, whom to this day I consider one of the best teachers I’ve ever had an an equally wonderful person. She played a crucial role in my journey from a kid who hated reading to the professional screenwriter I am today. Any student working with her is setting themselves up for a brighter future in academia."
“Ms. Aquadro is incredibly adaptable to each student’s learning style. She is always willing to collaborate and create a personalized lesson plan. For me specifically, she took complex texts and broke them down in ways that were easy for me to understand. During the college essay process, she shared helpful templates and helped me in brainstorming the key points that admissions officers needed to understand who I was, both as a potential student and as a human being.”
"I had the privilege of attending Ms. Aquadro’s online class while living in Afghanistan. Ms. Aquadro had a way of making complex literature both accessible and engaging, even for someone like me, learning English as a second language. Her class didn’t just teach literature - it built lasting connections. Ms. Aquadro is the kind of teacher who truly connects with her students and takes genuine interest in their lives. Her class was a lifeline for me during the covid lockdown, bridging my world in Afghanistan with the standards and experience of studying in the United States."
“Ms. Aquadro completely changed my perspective on English in general. From analyzing poetry to analyzing dialogues to analyzing moods of fictional characters, she taught me how to annotate in the margins, which was key because sometimes I would struggle with comprehension. Annotating helped me comprehend what I was reading much better. She really challenged my thinking and I’ll always appreciate her for that. All of this is a plus because best of all, she’s a phenomenal human being and is so passionate about what she loves!”
“Every child has their challenges, for me there were many. As a neurodivergent person, it often felt extremely overwhelming and isolating. When it comes to schoolwork, test preparation, and the rigorous academic schedule, having the right person to help you is vital. Laurel is a skilled and dedicated tutor who mentors each student, recognizes their individual talents, and guides them through their difficulties with creative ideas and a positive attitude. Having a teacher who is able to teach is not as important as one who truly loves to teach; this is the foundational world which Laurel builds with each and every one of her students.”

Most of my tutoring sessions take place in my online classroom. Having taught exclusively online for 5 years, I’ve seen the benefits of online one-on-one instruction. Through live video sessions and an ever-growing bank of online tools, I’ve been able to support students all over the world - sometimes even more effectively as sessions can easily fit around their schedule and in the comfort of their own homes.
I am occasionally able to tutor in person for students living on Mount Desert Island, Maine.
